โ„น️ If you haven't already done so, please read the blog post titled: The Importance of Data Logging as a Targeted Individual ๐Ÿ“

Dear Targeted Individuals,

Those of you who have watched my videos and have been following this blog will already know that I'm an advocate for targeted individuals keeping logs of their targeting experiences.

I personally keep a daily journal of my targeting experiences, and I've been using the Element messenger to do so thus far.

If you remember, I even recommended it previously as a viable option for all your journaling needs right ?

Well, I initially started using encrypted LibreOffice documents to keep written logs / journaling, but as time passed, I found this to be rather tedious and impractical.

So I discovered the Element messenger and migrated to the 'Matrix' platform for all my journaling needs.

Yes, you can create a space on element, create a couple of private chatrooms within that space (where you're the only participant), and you can use these customized chatrooms to create written logs that support images, videos, documents, and even audio files. This is similar to the 'note to self' feature on Telegram and WhatsApp but with far more customization options.

Element also has threaded messages to keep my logs organized, and each log has a time and date stamp attached to it which is essential for good record keeping.

Element synchronizes my journal/logs with all my other devices (desktop and mobile). This meant that I could take logs anywhere I was at any time.

However there are a few things that have caused me to move away from the Element messenger for all my Journaling needs:

๐Ÿ›‘ Internet: The Element messenger is dependent on an internet connection for it to work. No internet = No logging. You cannot have access to your historical logs without an internet connection.

๐Ÿ›‘ Laws: Element is made by a UK based tech firm know as 'NEW VECTOR'. If you've been keeping up with the news lately, then you'll be well aware of the Online Safety Act and the Digital Services Act that have gone into full force in the UK. These acts have led to unprecedented levels of online censorship (and spying). The government can now have access to all your messages even before they're sent. New vector by law must abide by these acts. What this means is that Element is not so private any longer.

๐Ÿ›‘ Trust: I can no longer trust or recommend a privacy service that is subject to Orwellian type censorship and surveillance laws.

Element: Changes to the privacy policy raises concerns about digital privacy.

Given these setbacks, I set out to find myself an alternative application that can attend to all my journaling needs. After much research and testing, I'm glad to report that I've finally found that application, tested it, and have completely migrated over to it.

โ„น️ CherryTree is an offline (very good) journaling application that is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

According to the official website:

A hierarchical note taking application, featuring rich text and syntax highlighting, storing data in either a single file (xml or sqlite) or multiple files and directories. "

Features:

- Rich text (foreground color, background color, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, small, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, subscript, superscript, monospace).

- Syntax highlighting supporting several programming languages.

- Images handling: insertion in the text, edit (resize/rotate), save as png file.

- Latex math equations rendering.

- Embedded files handling: insertion in the text, save to disk.

- Multi-level lists handling (bulleted, numbered, to-do and switch between them, multiline with shift+enter).

- Simple tables handling (cells with plain text), cut/copy/paste row, import/export as csv file.

- Code boxes handling: boxes of plain text (optionally with syntax highlighting) into rich text, import/export as text file.

- Execution of the code for code nodes and code boxes; the terminal and the command per syntax highlighting is configurable in the preferences dialog; an embedded terminal is available on Linux and MacOS.

- Alignment of text, images, tables and codeboxes (left/center/right/fill).

- Hyperlinks associated to text and images (links to webpages, links to nodes/nodes + anchors, links to files, links to folders).

- Spell check (using gspell).

- Intra application copy/paste: supported single images, single codeboxes, single tables and a compound selection of rich text, images, codeboxes and tables.

- Cross application copy/paste (tested with LibreOffice and Gmail): supported single images, single code boxes, single tables and a compound selection of rich text, images, code boxes and tables.

- Copying a list of files from the file manager and pasting in CherryTree will create a list of links to files, images are recognized and inserted in the text.

- Print & save as pdf file of a selection / node / node and sub-nodes / the whole tree.

- Export to html of a selection / node / node and sub-nodes / the whole tree.

- Export to plain text of a selection / node / node and sub-nodes / the whole tree.

- Toc generation for a node / node and sub-nodes / the whole tree, based on headers h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 and text sections between headers collapsible.

- Find a node, find in selected node, find in selected node and sub-nodes, find in all nodes.

- Replace in nodes names, replace in selected node, replace in selected node and sub-nodes, replace in all nodes.

- Iteration of the latest find, iteration of the latest replace, iteration of the latest applied text formatting.

- Import from html file, import from folder of html files.

- Import from plain text file, import from folder of plain text files.

- Import from basket, CherryTree, epim html, gnote, keepnote, keynote, knowit, mempad, notecase, rednotebook, tomboy, treepad lite, tuxcards, zim.

- Export to CherryTree file of a selection / node / node and sub-nodes / the whole tree.

- Password protection (using http://www.7-zip.org/) available only for storage as single file – NOTE: while a CherryTree password protected document is opened, an unprotected copy is extracted to a temporary folder of the filesystem; this copy is removed when you close CherryTree

- Tree nodes drag and drop.

- Automatic link to web page if writing the URL.

- Automatic link to node if writing node name surrounded by [[node name]].

As a targeted Individual, the features that I've found to be the most useful to me are:

- Encryption and password protection of journals.
- Fully featured rich text editing.
- File attachments (Images and documents supported).
- Node organization: You can create a main node named: 'GANG STALKING' and then go on to create further sub-nodes for each day. This really helps you keep your notes organized.
- Node search: You can search your journal using the node search feature.
- Adding time stamps to your logs.

CherryTree: Creating a node/instance for your journal.

CherryTree: Saving your node and adding encryption with a password.

As it stands, I can confidently recommend CherryTree to any targeted individual who's looking for a free and open source journaling application with data encryption features.

Full control of my data ? Yes please !!

A tutorial on this application is incoming.
